More on the beekeeping blog: This beekeeping Blog, is an enjoyment for me and my family….from time to time, different family members will contribute to this blog. When I started writing this it, I wanted to share how I got into beekeeping, a chronological detail of how I arrived where I am today, and what I hope to accomplish as a beekeeper (actually I hope to one day be a commercial beekeeper….full time beekeeping). In between my chronological account, I also give current updates of what’s going on in my day-to-day beekeeping chores/management. I want to let you, the reader, know that I have horrible grammatical skills, so please forgive my grammatical errors. So, that is us in a nut shell and this is our diary of sorts, of us as a beekeeping family.

  1. Well done on splitting your colony and not have to resort to mated queen. Rudolf Steiner wrote in his famous beekeeping book more than 80 years that artificially bred queen would result in “weaker” colony in the long run. Honey bees need all our help today, more than ever. And you are right bees have been breeding their queen from day one. There has been a revival in urban bee keeping here in Melbourne, Australia. More and more urban beekeepers are opting for the top bar beehive, which is a less work for city dwellers. All the best with your bee keeping.
